Helping burnt-out teachers relight their fire for life
I'm Rachel
I was in the classroom for 5.5 years before taking the leap into Virtual Assistance. Now, I’m sharing my story + helping others make the transition themselves.
Jenn Himstedt is a full-time behavior interventionist and part-time Virtual Assistant. Shortly after Jenn enrolled in Educators Exit in 2023, she landed a retainer client that pays her $4,200 a month. If you’ve ever wondered what it would look like to work as a part-time Virtual Assistant, this interview with Jenn is a testament to how lucrative this job can be.
Why did you choose to work as a part-time Virtual Assistant?
While I was working as a teacher, I got two master’s degrees. After I left the classroom to become a behavior interventionist, I found that I was going a little stir-crazy not having to grade, lesson plan, or work on my degree.
I was looking to do more with my time after work and stumbled upon Virtual Assistance. After learning more about the job, I decided it would be a great fit for me! As a former teacher, I knew so many of my skills would translate perfectly to this line of work.
What made you decide to enroll in Educators Exit?
I found Rachel and Educators Exit through Instagram. I reached out and asked her a few questions about VA work. I sat on the decision for a while, which is what I always tend to do with big purchases. But on Thanksgiving in 2023, I officially enrolled in the course.
Sometimes, you have to trust your gut on who to take a chance with, and my gut said Rachel was worth the chance! She has more than proven herself through the Facebook group, coaching calls, and feedback forms.
What has your journey to finding clients been like?
Five days after I launched my business, I received an inquiry through my website. I’ve booked discovery calls through my website and Facebook groups and eventually met someone who would become my client on a VA website. Based on what she was looking for and my availability, she ended up booking all of my hours. I was able to close my books!
How has working as a part-time Virtual Assistant impacted you financially?
The extra money I made as a Virtual Assistant has allowed me to pay more money on my car and save for a down payment on a house, which we are moving into this month!
What does your day-to-day look like?
I wake up at 4:30 AM and get a workout in. From there, I spend the morning getting myself and my kiddo ready for the day. I work from 7 AM until 2:30 PM and spend the rest of the day working with my client, parenting, doing chores, and just trying to keep everything in order. It’s a full day, but it fills me up!
Jenn’s story is one of many that prove the power of working as a part-time Virtual Assistant. Whether you’re looking to make more money or fill in the gaps in your schedule, becoming a VA is a great place to start.
